When people talk about the tourist attractions of Terengganu, most of them will mainly focus on its magnificent and heavenly islands, especially the Redang and Perhentian islands. How about if we introduced you to immerse in the state's historic and cultural heritage, instead?
Well, during the Caritra Langkasuka Exhibition, you will be enlightened and have the experience of exploring the legacy of the Langkasuka Kingdom that once ruled the entire northern and eastern part of Peninsula Malaysia at the height of its glory.
Many artefacts, built heritage, culture, tradition and stories will be shared on the site of Terrapuri Heritage Village, the location of the exhibition. Terrapuri Heritage Village, located along the scenic isthmus between the South China Sea and the Setiu Wetlands, is a resort that showcases a collection of lovingly restored traditional wooden homes from around Terengganu, some aged more than a hundred years.
For a minimal fee, visitors to Caritra Langkasuka Exhibition will have the opportunity to join in several activities, including a guided tour of the architecture of the village. Here, visitors can learn about 29 antique Terengganu Malay wooden houses that are linked to the ancient kingdom.
Besides, they will be introduced to a wide collection of old artefacts scattered around the village such as glassware, jars and woodcarvings.
Meanwhile, a local batik artisan, Asri Mat Yaman, will showcase his batik art pieces which visitors can purchase if they wish.
The exhibition will also feature sweet and savoury traditional snacks that visitors can sample. For an extra fee, visitors may enjoy a traditional lunch or dinner at the Tanjung Restaurant.
Visitors are also given the choice of extending their stay and experience of Terengganu with a 3-day 2-night trip by purchasing the "Caritra Langkasuka Escapade" package. Guided tours will be made to Duyong and Sekati islands, Penarik fishing village, Kg. Raja wood carving centre, Kuala Terengganu China Town, local markets and more.
All in all, the Caritra Langkasuka Exhibition will retrace and relive the experiences and lifestyles of the ancient culture and heritage of the lost kingdom of Langkasuka, certainly something not to be missed.
